DRAWING ON PLACE
Project
Tom Bassett-Dilley Architect
As a leader in Passive House design in Chicago, Tom Bassett-Dilley founded his firm in 2006 to explore sustainability as contemporary design—rooted in region, climate, and context. Proof was commissioned to develop a positioning strategy, a new identity, and a website that would clearly express the firm’s unique, place-based approach to architecture.

The identity system reflects the firm’s philosophy of drawing inspiration from the natural environment and its inherent qualities—commonly referred to as “place.” Our creative direction embraced that ethos, incorporating topography maps, sketches, environmental textures, and crisp, modern typography.
Color Coding Nature
Designed to create a memorable first impression, everything from stationery to presentation materials and project sheets embrace the brand with the extended color palette, images from nature and the TBDA identity.
The work of Tom Bassett-Dilley speaks for itself. It was a pleasure for our team to conceive and design a brand system inspired by the extraordinary architecture of TBDA. We created a cohesive system to reflect the thoughtfulness of the firm’s designs.
The thoughtful use and pacing of naturalistic images throughout collateral reinforces the firm’s belief that expressive, sustainable architecture grows directly from its surroundings.
Considered Design
The presentation materials were designed to echo the firm’s approach to architecture. We used an elegant warm gray cover stock for the presentation folder, allowing contents to stand out. Proposal sheets were color-coded to align with the logo system, creating intuitive organization and reinforcing the clarity of the brand experience.
“Our vision is to help our clients build a healthy, beautiful, low-carbon world. From our foundation of Passive and Zero-Energy buildings, we strive toward regenerative architecture worthy of Nature.”

Immersive Experience
The website was designed with project discovery at its core while clearly communicating the firm’s design philosophy and capabilities. An elegant interface, generous image formats, and understated typography create a quiet, immersive experience—one that allows TBDA’s work to speak for itself. The result is a website that celebrates the uniqueness of each project while honoring the thoughtful, contextual approach that defines the firm.
